Mumbai/UNI:  Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray here on Saturday announced the extension of lockdown in the state till April 30 to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

Addressing the people of Maharashtra, the CM said that the move was imperative as COVID-19 cases and casualties were on the rise.

He also announced to seal certain areas which have emerged as hotspots of the virus.

The details of the protocols to be followed during the extended lockdown would be announced later, he added.

On April 13, the State will complete five weeks since first Covid case was reported, he said, adding that the relentless efforts yielded results as the multiplication of cases have been prevented to some extent.

Thackeray asked for people's cooperation so as to unitedly cripple the Covid crisis.

The death count due to novel coronavirus in Maharashtra reached 112 on Saturday, while a total of 210 fresh cases were registered, propelling the overall tally to 1,666 -- highest in the country.
