New Delhi/IBNS: Amid the panic among people regarding the food availability during the nationwide lockdown, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said his government will feed four lakh people from tomorrow ensuring that no one will remain hungry in the national capital.

Kejriwal also announced free food will be given in 325 schools for poor and homeless people as the country entered the third day of 21-day lockdown which was called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"325 schools will be used to provide free food to the homeless and needy people. We were feeding approx 20,000 people on daily basis, from tomorrow we will be feeding 4 lakh people," the Chief Minister said.

Though the essential services including grocery shops, pharmacies, media, banks and ATMs have been exempted from the lockdown, long queues outside shops were spotted in different cities as people were trying to stockpile materials to survive the 21-day lockdown.

Kejriwal, who is one of the first Chief Ministers to call off all schools and colleges amid COVID-19 outbreak, said the Delhi government is prepared even if the number of cases in the national capital jumps to 1000.

He said, "Delhi government is prepared to deal with 100 new cases of Coronavirus everyday. Our team is preparing to deal with 500 to 1000 new cases every day if situation escalates. 100 hospitals being readied with ambulance, ventilators and medical staff."

"We had set up a team of five doctors to work out a plan so we are prepared in case the number of Coronavirus cases rises rapidly," said the Chief Minister.

While the total number of Coronavirus cases across the country rose to 724 on Friday, 36 people including six cured and one deceased in Delhi have so far been infected.

In reply to several Chief Ministers' urge to support the workers from different states stationed in Delhi, Kejriwal assured all saying, "I want to assure the Chief Ministers of all other states, we are taking care of everyone living in Delhi. We will try to extend all possible help to the migrants living in the national capital."
