New Delhi/IBNS: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposal to form a joint G20 strategy to deal with coronavirus pandemic.

"I am aware that Prime Minister Modi is keen to organise a link-up between all the G20 leaders. I think that's a commendable initiative. Australia obviously supports that," said Prime Minister Morrison.

Prime Minister Modi has already discussed the coronavirus situation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Meanwhile, the SAARC countries are holding a video conference to develop a common strategy to collectively tackle the deadly virus amid challenges posed by shortage of protective medical equipment and medicines as well as the huge medical infrastructure required to arrest and treat the infection.

In a series of tweets, PM said that South Asia, which is home to a significant number of the global population should leave no stone unturned to ensure the health of its people.

He also said that the Government is trying its best at various levels to combat COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus.

Modi tweeted: "Our planet is battling the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. At various levels, governments and people are trying their best to combat it. South Asia, which is home to a significant number of the global population should leave no stone unturned to ensure our people are healthy."

In another tweet, he said, "I would like to propose that the leadership of SAARC nations chalk out a strong strategy to fight Coronavirus.

We could discuss, via video conferencing, ways to keep our citizens healthy. Together, we can set an example to the world, and contribute to a healthier planet."

At least 106 people have been infected by coronavirus in India, the Union Health Ministry has said. So far two people have died from the virus - a 68-year-old woman in Delhi and a 76-year-old man in Karnataka's Kalburgi.
