Govt working on mission mode to solve challenges in health sector: PM Modi

New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the government is working on a Mission Mode to understand the various challenges in the health sector and solve them.

In his address through video conferencing on Jan Aushadhi Diwas celebrations in Delhi, the Prime Minister said, 'We're working on Mission mode to understand the challenges and solve them. Through Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, we are trying to provide cheap healthcare to all Indians throughout the country.'

Mr Modi said that the government is working on four sub-heads for every Indian's health.

'We are working on four sub-heads for every Indian's health- How to prevent them from illness.: If they fall sick, how can we provide them with cheap and quality healthcare. We're working on providing good facilities like hospitals for cheap and quality healthcare,' the Prime Minister said.

Mr Modi said that every month, over 1 crore families are getting benefits of cheap medicines from these Jan Aushadhi Centres.

'The medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras are 50-90 per cent less compared to the same medicines available in any market all across the country. The medicine for cancer is available for Rs 6,500 in any market. At a Jan Aushadhi Kendra, it is available for Rs 850 only.

Thus, the cost of healthcare has reduced significantly. Crores of poor and middle-class people have benefited from this,' he said.

The Prime Minister said that prices of over 1,000 medicines have been controlled and it has helped people all over the country.

'Close to Rs 12,500 crore have been saved by the common people. About 90 lakh poor have been provided free healthcare and treatment under Ayushman Bharat.

'We are trying to put a system in which no one has to go too far for medical facilities. Thus, health and wellness centers are being opened up in the entire country. New AIIMS, new hospitals and other facilities are being opened up,' he said.

The Prime Minister said that this scheme is not just about cheap medicines, but also about instilling self-confidence in specially-abled people.

'A network is being added to the Jan Aushadhi Kendras. It will feature quality-testing centers and distribution centers. Thousands of people are getting employment opportunities under the same,' the PM said.

On coronavirus, the PM called on people to stay away from rumours and follow the advice of the doctors for prevention of Corona virus.

'There are very small things that can help in prevention from coronavirus. Just take the basic measures and act according to the doctor's advice,' he said.

He appealed to people to stay away from rumours.

'I appeal to countrymen to stay away from rumours on coronavirus. In case of any problem, just consult the doctor,' the Prime Minister said.
