Lucknow/UNI: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Friday demanded that the Delhi violence be probed by a Judge of the Supreme Court.

In a letter sent to President Ramanth Kovind, party supremo Mayawati said that there was a considerable amount of loss of life and property in the violence that gripped some parts of New Delhi. However, it is also true that riots like 1984 were averted in Delhi.

The probe for the violence should be done under the supervision of a Supreme Court Judge so that a result can be drawn from it and the public should not feel like it was arbitrary.

Mayawati said that the violence witnessed in New Delhi is extremely unfortunate which clearly shows the failure of the police and intelligence agencies.

The BSP supremo has urged the President that those who have lost people and property in the violence should be provided with appropriate compensation from the Centre and the Delhi government.

She further said that stringent action should be taken against those behind the violence.
