Ruling BJD leader Minakshi Mishra dies of self immolation

Bhubaneswar/UNI: Minakshi Mishra, leader of ruling BJD, who set herself on fire on February 12 last, succumbed to her  burn injuries  today at a private hospital  here in the  state capital.

The BJD leader had sustained  90 per cent burn injuries when she set fire to herself in protest against the arrest of her son in front of the  Berhampur Superintendent of Police  office.

The  police had arrested  her son  Raja Mishra  in connection with a  group clash in front of her  house on January 28 last over a  parking issue.

Since the arrest of her son,  Minakshi  has been running from pillar  to post and met the  police officials including the  Berhampur Superintendent of Police  pleading  that his son  was  not guilty of the offence.

Sources  said on February 12 Minakshi had gone to meet the SP at his office  but met the Additional SP  in the absence of the SP and was assured  by the  senior police official that he would look into her  grievance.

Police said  the women BJD leader took everybody by surprise when she poured kerosene and  set herself on fire in front of the  SP office.

She was  rescued  by the  police personnel present in the office and rushed to the M K C G Medical College and  Hospital at Berhampur  with over 90 per cent burn injuries.

Minakshi  was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack  where she  was treated for two days before being shifted to  a private hospital in the state capital where she succumbed to her injuries today.
