Protest but don't block roads: Supreme Court tells Shaheen Bagh protesters

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Monday told the protesters, who are camped at Delhi's Shaheen Bagh protesting against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) for two months, to avoid blocking roads though upheld the right to agitate against any legislation, media reports said.

"We are not saying that people don’t have the right to raise their concerns. The question is where to protest? Because if this continues on the roads today for this legislation, tomorrow it could be done for another legislation," Justice Kaul has been quoted by The Indian Express.

The top court has asked the protesters to look whether the protest can be shifted elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the court has appointed senior advocate Sanjay Hegde and former chief information commissioner Wajahat Habibullah as mediators.

The two will try to convince the protesters to shift the agitation to some other location.
