New Delhi/UNI: Indian National Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led Opposition alliance is likely to form the next government in Jharkhand as according to the latest trends the alliance was leading in 42 seats of 81 while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in 29 assembly segments.

To form the government, a party or alliance needs to cross the half mark i.e 42 seats.

Till 1300 hrs, Bharatiya Janata Party  was leading in 29 seats, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 24, Indian National Congress in 13, Rashtriya Janata Dal five seats, JVM (Prajatantrik) in four, AJSU in two, Independents in two seats while Nationalist Congress Party and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) in one seat apiece.

The results have surprised many, as just six months before, BJP in alliance with AJSU won 12 Lok Sabha seats out of 14.

If the trends do not change, Jharkhand will be the second consecutive state where the BJP failed to get a simple majority after a thumping majority in the Lok Sabha elections. In Maharshtra, though the BJP in alliance with Shiv Sena crossed the half mark, but failed to form the government as the latter broke the alliance and joined the Opposition.

According to the poll observers for Jharkhand, BJP's campaign on nationalist agenda failed in front of local issues comprising tribal issues, unemployment and incidents of mob lynching.

As per the trends till 1300 hrs,Chief Minister Raghubar Das was trailing in Jamshedpur East seat by a margin of 4,643 votes.against his nearest rival Saryu Rai who is contesting as an Independent.

In 2014, Raghubar Das had won from Jamshedpur East seat by a margin of 70,157 votes.

JMM's acting president and Leader of Opposition Hemant Soren was trailing in Dumka but was leading in Barhet seat. On the other hand, AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto was leading in Silli. State BJP president Laxman Giluwa was trailing in Chakardharpur (ST).

Jharkhand Congress' Rameshwar Oraon was leading in Lohardaga while Leader of Legislature wing of Congress Aalamgir Aalam who was earlier trailing in Pakur has taken a lead of 13,749 votes against his nearest rival of Veni Prasad Gupta of BJP.

In the previous Assembly Elections of 2014, BJP had won 37 seats, AJSU 5 seats, JMM 19 seats, JVM-P 8 seats, Congress 6 seats and Others 6 seats.
