CAA: RJD sponsored Bihar bandh evokes mixed response

Patna/UNI: Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) sponsored Bihar bandh against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register for Citizenship (NRC) evoked mixed responses today.

Leader of opposition in Bihar assembly Tejaswi Yadav accompanied by RJD State president Jagdanand Singh, senior party leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and other activist took out a procession and demonstrated at main Dak Bungalow chowk in the state capital.

According to the reports pouring in here from different districts vehicular traffic and train services were affected during the bandh.

The bandh supporters ransacked several vehicles in different parts of the state and squatted on the railway tracks disrupting the train services at some places.

Businessmen kept their shutters down and educational institutions too remained closed during the bandh.

A report from Begusarai said that the RJD workers assembled at the main area of the town and protested against the CAA and NRC. The agitators carrying placards shouted anti-government slogans and blocked the main roads.

A similar report from Samastipur said the train services were disrupted between Samastipur Darbhanga Madhubani following protest at the railway station since morning.

The jam was lifted following intervention of the local police. RJD workers led by local MLA Akhtarul Islam Shaheen protested at the over bridge near the district magistrate's residence blocking Samastipur Patna Samastipur Darbhanga main road.


RJD spokesperson, Mr Shaheen said there was complete anarchy in the country due to the CAA which will affect not only the Muslims but the common people too. He said that the agitation would continue till it was withdrawn.

According to a report from Bhagalpur vehicular services and business as well as educational activities remained affected during the bandh, however, the train services remained normal during the day.


RJD workers also protested in Buxar where they demonstrated before the Shramjivi express. Train services in Darbhanga also got affected following the violent protest of the RJD workers.

Bihar Sampark Kranti superfast express remained stranded at Darbhanga railway station due to the protest.

A report from Munger said that some anti-social elements broke the glass-panes of four buses of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation and damaged them badly.

Passenger train-services were also disrupted in between Jamalpur and Khagaria and Jamalpur-Begusarai. Vehicular traffic was off the road.

All shops and business establishments, including tea, paan shops, egg, meat and vegetable-shops, kept their shutters down.

In support of the RJD sponsored Bihar Bandh call, hundreds of protesters including members of minority community took out a long procession and demonstrated in the Munger headquarters.They were carrying national-flags and placards,demanding withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act .
