New Delhi/UNI/IBNS: Amid protests by students, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Executive Committee on Wednesday announced major roll-back in the hostel fee and other stipulations.

Higher Education Secretary R Subrahmanyam taking to micro-blogging site Twitter said, "#JNU Executive Committee on Wednesday announced major roll-back in the hostel fee and other stipulations. Also proposes a scheme for economic assistance to the EWS students. Time to get back to classes.@HRDMinistry."

The Committee also proposes a scheme for economic assistance to EWS students.

Protesting students on Monday clashed with the police demanding action against the steep hike in hostel fees.

JNU students took protest over several issues, hostel fee hike being one of them. The agitation was against the hostel manual, restrictions by the administration, curfew timings.

Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' had assured the students of JNU of finding a solution to the fee hike issue.

The protest follows the hostel fee hike that went up by 300 per cent and would affect a majority of the students.
