New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wished the nation on the occasion of the 550th birthday celebration of Sikh guru and founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev.

" Today, on the very special occasion of the 550th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, my greetings to everyone. This is a day to rededicate ourselves to fulfilling Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s dream of a just, inclusive and harmonious society," he tweeted.

President Ram Nath Kovind also greeted the nation and said: "On the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, greetings to all fellow citizens, especially to our Sikh brothers and sisters in India and abroad. The life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji inspires us to build a society based on his teachings of equality, compassion and social amity."

Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Kartarpur corridor on India's side while Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the same on his country's side.

With the inauguration of the corridor, 550 Indian pilgrims will be able to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, in Pakistan's Punjab province. The corridor is thrown open before Nov 12, the 550th birthday anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
