Maharashtra-Haryana Assembly polls: BJP takes early leads

New Delhi/Mumbai/Chandigarh: The counting of votes for the Assembly polls held in Maharashtra and Haryana are taking place on Thursday as early trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party leading in both the states.

As per trends at 8.24 am, in the 288 Maharashtra Assembly, the BJP-Shiv Sena is leading in 64 seats.

The Congress-NCP alliance, which is the key opposition in the state, is leading in 21 seats. Others are ahead in 8 seats.

CM Devendra Fadnavis is eyeing to return to power for another term.

In Haryana, where votes decided the fates of candidates contesting to grab a seat in the 90 member assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party is ahead in 26 seats.

The Congress is leading in eight.

The results of the Assembly polls are crucial as it is taking place just few months after the PM Narendra Modi-led government returned to power after winning the Lok Sabha polls.
