Siachen Glacier is now open for tourism: Rajnath Singh

Ladakh/ IBNS: Giving adventure tourists an oppurtunity to explore a major attractive destination of the country, the Indian government on Monday opened Siachen Glacier for tourists to visit it.

The Siachen Glacier is known as the world''s highest battlefield.

Announcing the development related to Siachen, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted: "Ladakh has tremendous potential in Tourism. Better connectivity in Ladakh would certainly bring tourists in large numbers. The Siachen area is now open for tourists and Tourism. From Siachen Base Camp to Kumar Post, the entire area has been opened for Tourism purposes."

The announcement was made just a few days ahead of  Ladakh being declared a separate Union Territory on Oct 31.
