Shiv Sena editorial condemns Fadnavis' remarks on Vidarbha statehood

Mumbai, Nov 5 (IBNS): An angry editorial published in the Shiv Sena’s party mouthpiece Saamna on Wednesday criticized newly-appointed Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ statement on a separate statehood issue curved out of Vidarbha, media reports said.

“He beat his chest and said that at an appropriate time, statehood would be given to Vidarbha…As Chief Minister, he should ensure the state remains united,” the editorial piece said.

Earlier, Fadnavis had said in his home town of Nagpur, the nerve-centre of Vidarbha, on Monday that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has always supported the call for smaller states.

“The Centre will decide when to carve out a separate state. It will be done at an appropriate time. But we want to do it amicably,” he had said.
