New Delhi, Sep 9(UNI) The Akali Dal on Monday demanded immediate resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and said this has to be done so that he does not influence the progress of the case related to 1984 anti-Sikh carnage in Delhi.

"The FIR on 1984 riots has been reopened and to avoid Mr Kamal Nath influencing the progress of the case and also the witness, he should immediately step down... and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi must ensure this,' SAD leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters here.

Only the resignation of the Chief Minister will ensure that the case progresses in 'unbiased' manner, he said.

'We also demand that the two witnesses are given adequate security by Delhi Police and the Centre,' Sirsa said.

He said the statement by the witnesses has been given on oath and specifically names  Kamal Nath and another Congress leader.

Sirsa also cited the affidavit of a journalist, who had told Justice Nanavati Commission that a mob near Rakab Ganj was looking for Nath and seeking his directions during the peak of mob activities against the Sikhs.
