Srinagar: Two state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) employees have been suspended after they were found guilty of playing a key role in providing internet connection to Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at a time communication ban was imposed in the valley, media report said.

Geelani had the internet connection while he was under house arrest. The leader was found accessing internet after he had tweeted from his handle.

Along with Geelani, several Kashmiri leaders including former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were kept under house arrest while the Centre scrapped Articles 370 and 35A to withdraw the special status which Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed since Independence.

Later, Abdullah and Mufti were detained.

A complete communication ban and Section 144 were imposed in Jammu and Kashmir since the night before August 5, the day when the Narendra Modi government took the historic decision.

Though Abdullah and Mufti have still been kept under detention, the Centre is slowly relaxing several restrictions which were imposed in the valley.

While landlines have been re-activated, schools and government offices were also re-opened on Monday.
