India, UNAMA condemn terror attack in Kabul

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IBNS): The Indian government on Sunday condemned the suicide blast in Kabul that targeted a marriage hall and left over 60 people killed.

"India strongly condemns the horrific bombing in Kabul yesterday at a wedding hall in which innocent civilians lost their lives," India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

"We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this cowardly attack and wish early recovery to the injured," it said.

"India calls for the pepetrators of this heinous terror attack and those who provide shelter to be brought to justice expeditiously," read the statement.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also condemned the attack.

“An attack deliberately targeting civilians is an outrage, and deeply troubling, as it can only be described as a cowardly act of terror,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan. “I condemn these deliberate attacks on civilians that signal a deliberate intent to spread fear among the population, which has already suffered too much.”

Terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility for the suicide blast which targeted a marriage hall and left 63 people killed in Afghanistan's Kabul city on Saturday.

The group issued a statement in Arabic that the attack was carried out by ISIS suicide bomber Abu Asim Al-Pakistani, reported Khaama Press news agency of Afghanistan.

The statement further added that the attack targeted a gathering of Mushrikeens, referring to victims as non-believers, reported the news agency.

A suicide bomber targeted a wedding hall in Afghanistan Kabul city on  Saturday that left 63 people killed, media reports said on Sunday.

The blast left 180 others injured.

The explosion reportedly occurred at around 10.40 pm.

The Interior Ministry spokesman Nusrat Rahimi confirmed to Tolo News that the casualties and said the blast was a suicide bombing.

Sources and eyewitnesses told Tolo News the hall was packed with guests when the explosion happened.

In Kabul city, the Shahr-e-Dubai wedding hall is located in police district 6 (PD6).

Taliban in a statement rejected any involvement in the attack and said they condemn the incidents which target women and children, reported Tolo News.
