Police arrest five for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman

Guwahati, July 23 (IBNS): In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old married woman was gang raped in Assam’s Karimganj district.

Police on Monday arrested five persons who allegedly raped the woman.

According to the reports, the accused persons forcefully carried the woman from her home to a nearby jungle area and raped her.

The accused persons had forcefully entered the house when the victim was alone.

The incident took place at Kirimati tea garden area under Bazarichera police station on Sunday night.

Following the incident, the family members had lodged an FIR to Bazarichera police and police had arrested the culprits from Natunbazar area.

A police official of Karimganj district said the victim woman is now admitted at hospital.

The accused persons were identified as Tapan Nath, Panna Nath, Mithun Nath, Arun Nath and Anupam Nath.

“When the victim woman was alone in her home, the accused persons entered into the house and forcefully carried her to a nearby jungle area and raped her. The accused persons fled from the area after committed the crime. We have already arrested all five accused persons,” the police officer said.
