New Delhi, Jul 16 (UNI) Former Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Chandra Shekhar's son Neeraj Shekhar on Tuesday joined BJP in the presence of party General Secretary Bhupender Yadav.
The 50-year old Shekhar tendered his resignation on Monday. Rajya Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu announced the acceptance of the resignation letter in the House on Tuesday morning.
Shekhar met BJP chief and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday late evening.
Neeraj Shekhar had been contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Ballia as a Samajwadi Party leader after his father's death.
He lost the 2014 polls and was then accommodated in the Rajya Sabha.
But in this year's polls, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav did not give ticket to Neeraj Shekhar and instead fielded Sanatan Pandey.
