Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra resigns taking responsibility of party's debacle in state
Kolkata, Jul 9 (UNI) West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Somen Mitra has resigned from his post taking responsibility of party debacle in Lok Sabha poll.
However, AICC leader and in-charge of West Bengal Gaurav Gogoi has asked Mitra to continue to lead the party until a further arrangement was made in absence of a permanent chief of the party after Rahul Gandhi quit his post of president at the AICC.
Mitra, who went to New Delhi on Sunday to put his quit paper but there was none to take in absence of AICC president, a press release here said.
Congress bagged only two seats in last Lok Sabha poll in Bengal, downed from four in 2014.
