Bhopal, July 1 (UNI): Even as a phase of resignations continues in the wake of the Congress rout in the 17th general election, the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit may witness a change of guard in the not-too-distant future.

Chief Minister Kamal Nath is in a dual role as the Congress’ state head, a post he is occupying since April 2018 when he took over from erstwhile central minister Arun Yadav.

“Subsequent to assuming the chief ministerial mantle, Mr Nath has been ceaselessly urging that the party responsibility be handed over to another leader,” Media In-charge Shobha Ojha told UNI.

It is understood that a youthful countenance is likely to be Nath’s successor.

The names doing the maximum rounds are former central minister and ex-parliamentarian Jyotiraditya Scindia, state Home Minister Bala Bachchan and Forest Minister Umang Singhar.

Nath’s three-day New Delhi visit concludes on Tuesday.
