Thane, Jun 12 (UNI) A one-year-old boy who was kidnapped in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi on June 3, has been traced in UP, city police said on Wednesday.

DCP crime Deepak Deoraj told reporters that between 0100 and 0500 hrs on June 3, while the child Kumar Ashique (Babu) Chandul Harjan, was fast asleep along with his mother under the bridge at Dhamankar naka, some unidentified person pulled the child out and abducted it.

An offence was registered against the unknown unidentified person.

After thorough interrogation, police finally nabbed car thief Rohit Pradip Kotekar (23) of Nandi Naka on June 10. Kotekar admitted to have kidnapped the toddler with the help of his friend Suraj Soni, another car thief, who was at large.

He said that the duo had kidnapped the baby to sell it odd and pay of the heavy debts that they had incurred and this was an easy means of getting the money to pay back.
The child had been shifted to a village on the border of India and Nepal, Maharaj Ganj, of UP.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team comprising API Mahendr Jadhav, along with WPN Meghana Kumbhar, rushed to UP village and they reached the village just in the nick of time when the negotiations for the sale of the child was still underway.

The child was kept in the custody of a woman by the accused who was finally rescued and handed over to his parents by the Thane city police chief.
