Punjab: VB arrests senior assistant for embezzling salary funds

Moga, May 29 (UNI) A team of Vigilance Bureau led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Harjinder Singh on Tuesday, arrested a Senior Assistant posted in the health department at Ludhiana Civil Hospital for embezzling salary funds of Rs 26.53 lakhs.

The accused identified as Gurpartap Singh, a resident of Pandori Raayia village in Moga had committed the fraud when he was posted as a clerk at the Civil Hospital Moga from 2015 to 2018.

He said Gurpartap used to cleverly draw the salaries of either transferred or retired employees into his or his wife’s account. “Till now, he has embezzled at least Rs 26,53,116 while further investigations are on. It has also come into our notice the accused also embezzled the salary funds by hiking the basic salary of the employees that is under the investigation,” he said.

Harjider said on the basis of inquiry conducted by the Health and Family Welfare Department the case was registered against Gurpartap Singh at Vigilance Police Station Ferozepur Range on May 21, 2019.

He said the accused was also suspended by the Health Department on September 24, 2018, before transferring him to Ludhiana Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Vigilance Bureau has procured two days police remand of the accused after producing him at the District court.
