LS poll: Mayawati to support party that will back her PM ambition

New Delhi, May 22 (IBNS): As Lok Sabha poll candidates are counting hours now, media reports revealed that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, who is aspiring to become the Prime Minister of the country, said she will support the one who backs her ambition, media reports said.

NDTV quoting sources said the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister is believed to have conveyed her desire to be Prime Minister to one of the southern leaders who met her recently.

"Sources say Mayawati has clearly told the politician that her party's support would go to "whoever supports me for Prime Minister," NDTV reported.

Mayawati has formed alliance with her arch rival Samajwadi Party (SP) this election to stop the BJP from returning to power at the Centre.

Earlier this month, she told her party workers that she "may have to" contest the Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar "if all goes well".

It was a clear hint that she is eyeing the top position.

"In March, the BSP chief had given a similar hint while explaining to her party workers that they should not lose heart at her decision not to contest the Lok Sabha polls," said NDTV.
