Thane, May 17, (UNI) For effective control and monitoring of drinking water to the villages, the tankers supplying the same to the villages will be fitted with the GPS system, Thane Zilla Parishad CEO Hiralal Sonawane said here on Friday.

The announcement was made after Mr Sonowane visited the water scarcity-hit Sahapur taluka in the district where he took stock of the current situation and discussed immediate measures to be taken before the onset of monsoon.

A plan to meet the present situation of water scarcity in the taluka is in place he said, adding that a total of 182 villages and hamlets are being supplied water through tankers, he said.

He also visited the Sapgaon pumping station on the Bhatsa river, inspected the GPS system and said that special cell to monitor the GPS and tracking has been set up at each Panchayat samiti level through the ZP.

In the taluka, he said under the Rashtriya Peyajal Yojana this year, a total of ten schemes have been approved. Also the pending and delayed water projects in the talukas of Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ambernath have been started this year. A total of 33 water supply schemes in the talukas of Murbad and Sahapur have also been started this year he added.

The CEO gave specific directions in the light of the prevailing scarcity situation in the taluka to the Gramsevaks and Taluka level officials not to leave the headquarters else they will face stringent actions he warned. The Gram sevaks have also been directed immediately to submit the plans for supply of water through tanker

and other related works of the villages or hamlets which are likely to face water storage despite all these measures.
