Mamata, Derek slam Amit Shah for 'Kangal Bangla' jibe

Kolkata, May 13 (IBNS/UNI): After Amit Shah's remark that Mamata Banerjee has turned Sonar (golden) Bangla into Kangal (beggar) Bangla, the West Bengal Chief Minister called the Bharatiya Janata Party chief "fathead" and said all they (BJP leaders) know is to start riots.

"He (Amit Shah) is a fat-head. Half-literate. All they know is how to start a riot... I'm willing to lay down my life, but there will no riot under my watch," said an infuriated Banerjee.

She had earlier accused Prime Minister and his party of using unparliamentary language and said they are responsible for lowering the political discourse of the country.

This comes after Shah on Monday described West Bengal as “Kangal Bangla”.

"Mamata Banerjee has turned Sonar (golden) Bangla into Kangal (beggar) Bangla. She is only interested in protecting infiltrators to secure her vote bank."

"But her vote bank won't be able to save her from imminent defeat," he said.

"We will restore the glory of Bengal," added the BJP chief, who is targeting 23 of Bengal's 42 seats in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

''Extortion, syndicate and violence have made people disgusted of Trinamool's rule," Shah said.

Reacting to his comment, TMC spokesperson Derek O'Brien called Shah "puke" and stated that Bengal will give him befitting reply in Phase 7 of the election.

Amit Shah's rally cancelled in Jadavpur:

On Monday, Amit Shah accused Banerjee of cancelling his programme because she was worried for her nephew, who is contesting from one of the seats that Shah was supposed to hold a rally, of defeat.

Addressing a public meeting here, Shah said, "I was to visit three places today, but Mamata's ji's nephew is contesting from one of the seats so she is scared her nephew will lose, and that's why she cancelled the permission for our rally."

"TMC can stop me from attending rallies in Bengal, but won't be able to stop BJP's victory march," he said.

Earlier in the morning, Shah in a tweet said, “Since Mamata Banerjee government did not give permission for the 2nd rally which was to be held in Jadavpur, Kolkata, Shri@AmitShah is compelled to hold only 2 rallies. People of Bengal will give a befitting reply to this anarchy of Mamata Didi on 23rd May.”

Jai Shri Ram row:

The BJP president said the Bengal chief minister has disallowed people from saying 'Jai Shri Ram'.

''Mamata didi, I am chanting Jai Shri Ram here and leaving for Kolkata, arrest me if you have guts," the BJP president said.

The row over "Jai Shri Ram" started after a video circulated on social media showed Banerjee stopping her car at a place in West Midnapore and chasing those who chanted the slogan as her convoy passed by.

Taking a dig at Banerjee, Shah said, “If the Bengali language is to be re-established within Bengal, vote for BJP."

He accused Banerjee of no development in the state. “There is no new factory in Bengal under Mamata Didi's rule. There are only bomb-making factories," the BJP president said.

Shah alleged that Banerjee is blocking the benefits given by the Modi government to the people of West Bengal.

"Mamata Didi in Bengal does not give the benefit of any scheme of Modi ji's government because Mamata Didi believes that if these schemes start here Modi will become more popular here," he said.

''Bengal’s voters will help BJP to win more than 23 seats in West Bengal,” Shah said.

Earlier, Shah was denied permission to hold a rally in Baripur which falls under Jadavpur constituency in the run-up to the last phase of polls.

The party sources on Monday said that although permission was granted for Shah's chopper to land here, it was later denied by the authorities.
