Demonetisation and GST ruined business, cut jobs: Rahul

Gwalior, May 8 (UNI): Attacking the Narendra Modi dispensation vis-a-vis demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax, Congress president Rahul Gandhi alleged on Wednesday that their twin consequences were a body blow to industry and trade plus a spurt in unemployment.

“The country’s youth are jobless, the debt-ridden cultivator is ending his very existence, there are other predicaments but Mr Modi only speaks his ‘Mann ki Baat’ and has nothing to do with commoners. There was a time when he talked of heralding good days, later he commenced speaking of a Congress-free India and has now resorted to patriotism in his speeches. The country did not become ‘liberated’ of the Congress, on the contrary our party’s governments assumed the reins in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh,” Rahul said.

Gwalior used to be an industrial domain boasting numerous factories, he said, adding that the one-and-a-half decades of saffron rule in the state witnessed their closure.

“Following the Congress coming to power in Madhya Pradesh, agrarian debt waiver was set in motion. Erstwhile chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan did not believe this but his sibling Rohit Singh is himself in the list of beneficiaries. I urge chief minister Kamal Nath to have an inquiry conducted into the infamous Professional Examination Board scam,” Mr Gandhi said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Nath said that – after he took charge – fulfilment of promises got underway and 21 lakh peasants’ loans were remitted.

“I do not require any certificate from Mr Chouhan, I shall obtain one from the tillers. The Bharatiya Janata Party is on the exit route from the Centre,” he added.
