Guwahati, May 8 (IBNS): The Assam Pradesh BJP on Wednesday burnt the effigy of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Guwahati after the convoy of West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress workers in Khejuri in Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday.

The Assam BJP workers protested against the incident and shouted slogans against Mamata Banerjee.

On Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that the TMC goons blocked the roads even as the West Bengal police stood at the scene as mute spectators.

“We are at Khejuri in Kanthi LS constituency and attacked mercilessly by @AITCofficial goons. Many of our workers are injured even as @MamataOfficial goons gheraoing and abusing us. @BJP4Bengal President @DilipGhoshBJP and I are stuck (sic),” Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

“TMC goons have blocked the roads on both sides, even as West Bengal Police personnel standing like mute spectator. I am appalled at such brazen abuse of power by @MamataOfficial whose people have thrown all democratic norms to gutter. Is this the #NewIndia that we dream of? (sic),” Sarma said in another tweet.
