Karnataka: House robbers arrested, ornaments recovered

Belagavi, May 4 (UNI) Police have arrested a three-member house robbers gang on Friday and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 8.78 lakh from them.

According to the police, the arrested were identified as Shaid Laskarwale (21), Abdulgjani Shabbirshaik (22) and Mohmed Riazahmed (22), all locals.

House thefts had increased in the city in recent days and the police had received many complaints from the public. The police had set up a special team headed by police commissioner Lokesh Kumar, DCP Latkar and other senior officials for the search of the house robbers and were successful yesterday.

All the alleged accused are said to have been involved in more than ten house thefts in the city and its outskirts including Udyambag area, Bhagyanagar, Marihal, Kakathi and other places. The police later received authentic information. Following their arrest police seized 150 gms of gold ornaments worth over Rs 4.85 lakh, 10 kg of silver articles worth 3.91 lakh and a two wheeler from them. Following interrogation, the arrested persons confessed that they had involved in all ten house robbery cases.

Police commissioner Lokeshkumar appreciated the special team for the successful arrest of all three house robbers and has announced a reward to the team.

The police have registered the case and further investigation is taking place, police said.
