Bihar: Huge consignments of liquor seized

Patna, May 3 (UNI) Police seized huge consignments of liquor and nabbed three peddlers in Khagaria and Darbhanga districts late last night.

According to a report from Khagaria, police seized 2460 bottles of foreign liquor from newly constructed house at Mehsauri village under Mufassil police station area in the district.

Police said nobody could be arrested from the spot.

In another recovery of liquor, police seized 9240 bottles of country liquor kept in 132 cartons, 104 cans of beer and 24 bottles of foreign liquor were seized from a passenger vehicle on National Highway 102 near Kanjari village under Beldaur police station area in the district. Sources said occupants of the vehicle made good their escape by taking advantage of darkness.

According to a report from Darbhanga, police seized 62 cartons of foreign liquor on Paper Mill road under Ashok Paper Mill police station area in the district.
Darbhanga senior police superintendent Babu Ram said that 1488 bottles of foreign liquor packed in 62 cartons were seized from a pick-up van during checking of vehicles. The seized liquor was being smuggled from Jharkhand to Darbhanga.

The SP said that three peddlers were arrested from the pick-up van. The peddlers had been identified as Dev Kumar Chaudhary, Jaikant Kumar Yadav and Tahir Sheikh, a native of Jharkhand.
