New Delhi, Apr 23 (IBNS): Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha polls from the East Delhi parliamentary constituency.

Gambhir recently joined the BJP.

There was speculation earlier that Gambhir could be fielded from New Delhi as it is an more urbane constituency.

The decision to field him from East Delhi would mean replacing of sitting party MP Maheish Girri who was associated with Art of Living.

The contest from East Delhi will now be more intense as Congress has named Arvinder Singh Lovely and the AAP is fielding Atishi.

In New Delhi, Lekhi will be pitted against Ajay Maken of the Congress and Brijesh Goyal of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Maken defeated veteran BJP leader Jagmohan in 2004 in New Delhi constituency.
