Repoll recommended in 10 booths : TN CEO

Chennai, Apr 21 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo today said he has recommended repolling in ten booths to the Election Commission (EC).

“We have recommended for re-polling in ten booths. It's for the EC to take a decision'', he told reporters here.

They include eight booths in Pappireddypatti coming under Dhamapuri Lok Sabha constituency and one each in Poonamallee (Triuvallur-R) and Cuddalore, he said.

He said based on the reports received from the District Election Officers (DEOs) about malpractices during polling on April 18, he has recommended repoll in ten booths.

Responding to the incident of a woman Tahsildar entering a counting centre in Madurai, Mr Sahoo said the EVMs were stored in other rooms and not in the room entered by the woman. He also said the woman concerned was placed under suspension.

Meanwhile, the opposition parties, including the DMK, condemned the incident, wherein a woman Tahsildar entered the strong room where EVMs were kept in
a counting centre in Madurai. DMK Organisational Secretary R S Bharati along with alliance party leaders from CPI, CPI(M) and VCK, petitioned the CEO to maintain strict vigil and ensure that the places where EVMs are kept are well-guarded.

They also demanded replacement of the Madurai DEO and wanted Mr Sahoo to visit the counting centres and ensure that they were well guarded.
