Narendra Modi, face of BJP's vote bank, to kickstart electioneering in Bengal from Wednesday

Kolkata, Apr 2 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off BJP's electioeering for West Bengal on Wednesday with rallies at Siliguri and in Kolkata, of which polling will be held in the second and last of the 7-phase voting across the state.

Party sources said  Modi, the elction face for the saffron brigade, will start his rally at the Railway Football stadium near Siliguri, the commercial hub of north Bengal around 1 pm and then fly for the second rally at Brigade Prarade ground about 3 pm.

Party sources claimed that the assembly of the people at the Brigade rally would surpass all previous records.

The Brigade rally would be first such rally for Modi to address the people where even several lakh congregation would look half empty.

Hangers are being set up at the Brigade parade ground, a property of the Indian Army, where posting a flag pole neds nods from the Eastern Command, to keep the area cool and sun protection.

BJP eyes 23 Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal's 42 parliamentary constituencies where Modi is slated to visit at least seven times during the seven-phase poll, starting on Wednesday.

West Bengal has seven-phase poll from April 11 starting from Alipurduar and Cooch Behar, the northern most districts of the state and and the last phase poll will be held on May 19 when nine constituencies across the city will be held.

The saffron brigade has emerged strong among the opposition parties in Bengal in recent years to challenge the domination of Mamata Banerjee led All India Trinamool Congress, which has been winning all the elections since 2009.
