Two militants killed in Kashmir's Baramulla; operation continues

Baramulla, Mar 22 (UNI): Two militants were killed by security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) which was launched on Thursday in Kreeri area of this north Kashmir district, a police spokesman said on Friday.

The operation is still going on and people are advised not to venture out in the area, he said.

Meanwhile, mobile internet in the area has been snapped as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.

Spokesman said on a specific information about the presence of militants, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint search operation at Kreeri in Baramulla on Thursday.

All the exit points were sealed and house-to-house searches were launched, he said adding there when the security forces reached a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons.

Security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, he said adding two militants were killed. The identity of the militants was being ascertained, he said adding that the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.

He said citizens are requested not to venture in the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive material. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all explosive material if any, he said.
