Assam: Seven ULFA ultras surrender to security agencies

Guwahati, Mar 19 (UNI) Seven hardcore ULFA(I) militants, including two bomb experts, have surrendered before security forces in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam, after being cornered by a joint team of army and police in a reserve forest in the district.

Army sources said here today that the militants were forced to surrender yesterday following a joint operation of the army and police in the area since March 17, launched based on military intelligence.

“We have information that these militants were trying to enter Tinsukia district. And a brigade-level operation was launched, involving nine columns of the army, in coordination with the police force. We managed to confined them in a reserve forest area and being cornered, they chose to surrender,” the sources said.

Six rifles, including four AK series rifles, 20 magazine and 673 rounds of different calibers were recovered from them.
