Twenty one killed in a mining accident in China
Hohhot, Feb 24 (UNI) A total of 21 people have been killed and 29 others injured after a vehicle lost control due to faulty brakes at a mining company in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,local authorities said on Sunday morning.
The accident took place around 0820 hrs on Saturday at a lead, zinc and silver mine under Yinman Mining Company in West Ujimqin Banner, Xilingol League.
Fifteen people were killed on the spot and five others died later. The 29 who were injured were in stable condition, Global Times reported.
The regional emergency management department said that the vehicle taking the 50 workers to the underground lost control due to brake failure and crashed into the side of the tunnel.
The injured have been hospitalized.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has sent a working team to guide and assist rescue and investigation at the site.
Deadly mining accidents remain common in China despite efforts to improve conditions and crack down on illegal mines, particularly those that produce coal.
