People of Gujarat will even not vote for PM Modi in upcoming polls: Mamata Banerjee in Delhi
New Delhi, Feb 13 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday addressed the "Save The Democracy" rally in New Delhi and said people of Gujarat will not vote for PM Narendra Modi in the upcoming polls.
Modi served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat before he led BJP to clinch a massive victory in the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 to be elected as the Prime Minister of India.
"People will not vote for you even in your Gujarat," she said.
Banerjee even taunted Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah by describing them as Bollywood's iconic villain 'Gabbar Singh'.
"You speak about 56-inch chest, I want to say that even Ravana had it," she said referring to Ramanaya's character Ravana.
Banerjee said all parties, which are powerful in its own region, should contest against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
"I am ready to sacrifice my life for the country," she said.
"We will fight and let's make a united India," she said.
"All parties should contest against the BJP in their own regions," she said.
Several opposition leaders, including Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Andhra Pradesh Cm N Chandrababu Naidu, attended the meet.
This is the second show of Opposition unity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections that will take place by May.
Mamata had called off her dharna in Kolkata earlier this month over the standoff between the Kolkata police chief Rajeev Kumar and the CBI and said she, along with other Opposition leaders, would take up the issue in Delhi.
At the previous mega show of strength by Opposition leaders in Kolkata, the representatives of 23 parties had taken part in it.
BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha, who is now known as a strong critic of the former after leaders like him were sidelined in the Modi regime, attended both the rallies in Kolkata and now in New Delhi.
