Rahul Gandhi to meet Congress workers, alliance leaders in Kerala today

Kochi, Jan 29 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi will address a meeting of the party's booth workers and meet leaders of the United Democratic Front alliance here today, said media reports.

Rahul is expected to reply to some of the charges made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the Congress and the opposition alliance during his tour to the region recently.

The UDF had in 2014 won 12 of the 20 seats while the CPM-lef Left Democratic Front won eight. The Sabarimala issue is expected to have an impact on the voting this time with the ruling government supporting the entry of menstruating-age women to the shrine after the Supreme Court overruled the old tradition of not letting women in. The Congress and the BJP have resisted women's attempts to enter the shrine.

Though the Congress leadership was initially reluctant to oppose the entry of women to the Sabarimala temple, it later changed its stand fearing desertion by workers.

The Kerala government is finding it difficult to implement the Supreme Court's order amid huge opposition.
