BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in troubled water

Mumbai, Sep 25 (IBNS): The over two-decades-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena alliance is said to be over in Maharashtra, media reports said.

BJP sources said the Sena had refused to give an inch more than what they had offered to them and four smaller parties who are also a part of the alliance. They are refusing to go below 151 seats out of the total 288 Assembly segments in the state.

After the BJP hinted at ending the 25-year-old alliance with the Sena, the later reportedly made their last attempt of reconciliation to salvage the coalition.

Sources said that the Shiv Sena was in talks with the BJP leadership and waiting for an official announcement now.

The cancellation of BJP President Amit Shah’s visit to Mumbai for the second straight day came as an early sign of the political break-up.

Shah’s proposed visit was expected to resolve the seat-sharing imbroglio between the two partners ahead of the crucial Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled on October 15.
