Kolkata, Nov 12 (IBNS): The Peerless Hospital and B.K. Roy Research Centre in south-west Kolkata's Panchasayar area was ransacked on Monday morning by the relatives of an elderly patient who, they alleged, had died due to medical negligence, reports said.

According to reports, 83-year-old Radharani Maity, a resident of Sonarpur area in neighbouring South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, was admitted to the private health facility on Sunday with severe chest pain and high fever.

After the patient was declared dead on Monday morning, her family members engaged in an altercation with the hospital authority.

During the broil, relatives of the patient vandalized the emergency ward of the hospital and they allegedly threatened doctors and other staffers of the health facility.

After being informed, police from nearby Panchasayar Police Station rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Police arrested three persons from the spot for allegedly vandalizing the hospital properties.

"Based on a complaint filed by the hospital authority, we have arrested three persons from the scene for their alleged role in the vandalism and we are examining hospital's CCTV footage to identify others involved in the incident," a local police official told IBNS.

"A probe has been initiated into the matter," the officer added.
