Ahmedabad, Nov 7 (IBNS): A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh changed the name of Faizabad, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel on Wednesday hinted at a possibility of the alteration of Ahmedabad's name.

Patel said the name of the city can be changed to Karnavati if there are no hurdles.

The Deputy Chief Minister has been quoted by Times Now as saying, "There has been a demand to change the name of Ahmedabad and rename it as Karnavati. If we get people's support for the legal process, we're ready to change its name."

"People are still having a feeling that Ahmedabad should be renamed as Karnavati. If we get required support to overcome the legal hurdles, we are always ready to change the name of the city," Patel added.

On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced Faizabad's new name as Ayodhya.

In this year itself, the Yogi government renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj and Mughalsarai Railway Station as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.
