Tinsukia killing incident: TMC delegation team meets victims family members

Guwahati, Nov 4 (IBNS): Three days after the killing of five people by unidentified gunmen at Kherabari area under Sadiya assembly constituency in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district, a delegation team of All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC)-led by TMC parliamentary party leader in Rajya Sabha Derek O’Brien on Sunday visited Kherabari area and met the family members of the victims.

 

Apart from Derek O’Brien, the team includes party’s Lok Sabha MP Mamata Bala Thakur, Rajya Sabha MP Nadimul Haq and MLA Mahua Moitra.

After reaching at Dibrugarh airport at around 7-30 am, the team visited Kherabari area, where the incident was happened on Nov 1 evening, interacted with bereaved families of the victims.

The TMC delegation team had announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the five victims and assured them of all supports.

TMC MP Mamata Bala Thakur said that, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sent them to take stock of the situation and it is a humanitarian visit.

On the other hand, TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien said they are with the families of the victims.

Meanwhile, reacting over the TMC delegation team’s visit, Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said: "We welcome their visit to meet the family members of victims, but don’t give any provocative statement and situation in Assam should not deteriorate further."

“We welcome visit of TMC parliamentary team to meet the family members of the victims of the terrorist attack. But, only for request that, don’t give any provocative statement. Situation in Assam should not deteriorate further. Let TMC come, meet the family members of the victims,” Himanta said.

Following the Tinsukia incident, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that, an ‘environment of violence’ was prevailing in the country.

On Saturday, All Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation and few other organisations called 12-hour Assam bandh to protest against the Tinsukia incident.

Earlier, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said strong action will be taken against the perpetrators of the dastardly violence.
