Guwahati, Sept 27 (IBNS) : The body of a suspected ULFA-I militant was found floating in a river in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday morning.

The body was spotted by local fishermen and the police recovered it. The corpse is yet to be identified.

The body, floating in the Burhi-Dihing, was in full battle fatigue with a hand grenade fitted with it. The man was believed to have been shot dead during a fierce encounter between ULFA-I militants and the army near Jagun area in the upper Assam’s district along with Arunachal Pradesh border.

The gun fight took place at Kheremnala-Adarsha village near Jagun on September 24. The army had claimed that two militants were injured.

The Tinsukia district police have started an investigation.
