Andhra Pradesh MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao shot dead by Maoists

Visakhapatnam, Sept 23 (IBNS): The Maoists on Sunday morning shot dead an Andhra Pradesh MLA in Visakhapatnam district, media reports said.

The MLA has been identified as Kidari Sarveswara Rao, who is the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) lawmaker from Araku Valley.

Rao died on spot while another former lawmaker Shivari Soma has been taken to hospital in injured condition

The attack took place when the duo was attending an event in Livitiput, 15 km from the Araku Valley.

They were reportedly shot from point blank range.

The event was attacked by at least 40 Maoists.

The Maoists reportedly took human shield to escape from the spot.

According to reports, the Maoists fled the spot with the weapons of the leaders' personal security men.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is in the US, has offered his condolences to Rao's family and directed all MLAs of the state to take adequate precautions.
