Bihar shelter home incidents are shameful, condemnable: Nitish Kumar

Patna, Aug 6 (IBNS): Two days after a massive protest by the Opposition over the rape and torture of more than 30 minor girls at a government-run shelter home in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday called the incidents as "shameful" and "condemnable".

Addressing a press conference, Nitish said the investigation is taking place and the actions will be taken against culprits.

He also accused the opponent political parties of politicising the issue. "Let people say whatever they want to. We are concerned about the issue," the Chief Minister added.

The state government has reportedly cracked down on the organisations run by the prime accused in the case - Brajesh Thakur- blacklisting all of them.

Altogether 30 organisations, including three newspapers and other shelter homes, owned by Brajesh Thakur have been blacklisted and funds disbursement has been stopped, media reports said.

The Muzaffarpur shelter home, where more than 30 girls were raped, was also owned by Thakur.

The Muzaffarpur incident has sent a shock wave across the country while encouraging the opposition in Bihar to launch a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar government.

The attack is often led mainly by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who has accused Kumar of trying to shield the accused for their alleged links with the ruling Janata Dal-United.

Nitish has recently directed the state police to hand over the investigation into the case to the CBI.

On Saturday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal assembled at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to protest over the incident.
