Security forces bust hideout of ULFA-I; huge cache of arms-ammunition recovered

Guwahati, July 27 (IBNS): Security forces on Thursday destroyed a hideout of banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, troops of ninth battalion of Rajputana Rifles and Assam police had jointly launched an operation in the thick jungle area under Lakhipathar forest division in the upper Assam district after knowing the presence of a militant group.

While the troops reached the remote jungle area, the militants managed to flee from the area.

Security personnel had destroyed a hideout of the militant group and recovered four pistols, one revolver, two rounds of 40mm Multi Shot Grenade Launcher, 11 rounds of 9mm revolver ammunition, 16 rounds of 2.2mm ammunition, one round AK-47, radio set, battery with charger and mobile phones, demolished notes of Rs 1.49 lakh and other warlike stores from the busted hideout.

The operation was launched as a pre-emptive measures against the ULFA-I militants preparation for subversion and sabotage activities against security forces in wake of the ULFA-I’s Martyr’s Day to be celebrated on Friday.

This operation is a part of a major ongoing crack down by security forces against the insurgent outfits, active in upper Assam.
