Waxing, shaving not good under Sharia, tells Darul Uloom

New Delhi, July 20 (IBNS): Deoband-based renowned Islamic seminary, Darul Uloom,  has said that waxing and shaving are not considered correct for Muslims as per the  Sharia law, media reports said.

The fatwa has triggered yet another controversy.

The fatwa was issued on the query by a local named  Abdul Aziz, reports said.

As per media reports, Aziz asked if it was correct to shave or wax arms and legs.

The fatwa department reportedly said barring armpits, mustache and lower part of navel it was not advisable to remove hair from any other part of the body as per Sharia.

“Removing hair through waxing or shaving from other parts of the body is khilaf-e-adab (against the culture)," the seminary said in its written reply to Aziz, as per The Times of India report.

Deoband-based cleric Maulana Salim Ashraf Qasmi  told the national daily: "The fatwa is absolutely correct  and is according to the Sharia Law.  It should be noted that Darul Uloom has called  the practice khilaf-e-adab and has not declared it ‘haram’."
