Guwahati, July 5 (IBNS): The Assam Rifles personnel on Thursday rescued three men dressed like ‘Sadhus’ at Mahur railway station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district as a mob of around 500 people attacked them on suspicion of being child lifters.

The trio – two from Uttar Pradesh and one from Gujarat wearing red cloths- came to the area in a car having Uttar Pradesh registration number (UP-16B-7582).

They were driving around Mahur area when locals surrounded them near the railway station.

When some people started attacking them on suspicion of being child lifters, few conscious ones immediately informed the Assam Rifles.

The army personnel then rescued the trio from the railway station safely.

The three men are now in army custody.

According to the reports, the three men came to Guwahati and took part in the Ambubachi Mela and later went to Kaziranga, followed by visiting Parashuram Kund, 25 km from Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh.

They reached Mahur in Dima Hasao district as they were scheduled to visit Tripura.

When they reached at Mahur area, they became victims of social media rumours.

On June 8 last, two youths from Guwahati were beaten to death by a mob in the name of child traffickers at Panjuri village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district.
