Guwahati, June 24 (IBNS): The Assam police has arrested five more persons in connection with the Karbi Anglong lynching of two youth artists Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath at Panjuri village under Dokmoka police station in the hill district on June 8 evening.

According to the reports, the police arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in the lynching incident.

The arrested persons were identified Phukan Lekthe, Ratneswar Terang, Babu Singnar, Perez Timung and Peter Engti.

Police has so far arrested 41 persons in connection with the lynching incident.

The police registered a case (33/2018) at Dokmoka police station under section 302/34 of IPC in connection with the incident.

Earlier, on June 13 last, police had arrested the main culprit identified as Alphajoz Timung alias Alpha, who allegedly instigated the lynching incident.

Police had arrested Alphajoz from the nearby Panjuri village, who sent out the message that the youths were child abductors.

On June 8 evening, the main culprit Alphajos Timung allegedly first got into a small altercation with two Guwahati youth Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath near Kangthilangso waterfall and Alphajoz alleged that they are child lifters.

Rumours about child lifters (locally called Xupadhora) had fuelled the whole incident which took place at the remote area.

Alphajoz had allegedly used the viral messages of child lifter in social media to fulfill his own enmity.
