PM Modi congratulates Afghanistan for playing maiden test match

New Delhi, June 14 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Afghanistan for playing the first international test cricket match and hoped that sports would help foster closer relations between the two nations.

"I congratulate the people of Afghanistan as their cricket team plays their first international test match," Modi tweeted.

" Glad that they have chosen to play the historic match with India. Best wishes to both teams! May sports continue to bring our people closer and strengthen ties," the PM said.

Afghanistan, torn by years of civil war and terrorism, the maiden test match on Thursday against India at Bengaluru.
